The Mod Generation

The Society of Cool!

Was talking to a dude from dack in thee day! he was tellin me that the 60's mods preferred mode of transport was the GS Scooter and that they used to look down there noses at the sportique and other inferior models...is there any truth in this?? The majority of pics ive seen had every kind of scooter in them so found that a bit hard to believe...but i suppose like everything in life there is an elite section to every walk of life!!

I think you hit the nail on the head mate. The main thing is there are many who are not elitist so plenty of fun still to be had.

the thing now is, scooters are seen as beautifully designed vintage Italian vehicles, not the shopping trolleys they were back then, now it makes sense to preserve a scooter and cherish it as one day they will be so rare and so expensive that only the rich will be able to afford one, not to mention that if Europe had its way anything over 20 years old would be scrapped ! (not sure if ive got that right, but ya see my point)...

Well said Paul. We throw good stuff away too often, it's nice to keep quality what ever it is.

agreed mate, its like anything from that era, now very collectable but back then it soon became old tat lol...

look at the price of old minis now ! i had a 1963 mini cooper, sold it in the late 80's for £60 !! gutted or what lol...not to mention the 5 scooters i had in my parents back yard i sold for peanuts when i moved out, inc an sx200 for £25...still, with hindsite comes wisdom thay say, pity i didnt have any back then !!

I used to ride the scooter to work but often the bone shaker to the left was my main mode of transport

Just think mate you could have been team mates with bradley!  Funny old world.......:-)

haha not on that old vintage bike lol , mind you you had to be strong to pedal that thing up the hill home
