The Society of Cool!
I'm going to see Paloma Faith ( in my opinion the potential successor to Amy). It got me thinking about contemporary artists and where to place them in 'Mod' music if at all? I wasn't around at the genesis of the movement so unfortunately didn't get to see any of the past vintage artists in their heyday, live and at their best. Would todays artists stand up against the past or are we looking at waiting for generations before they mature like fine wine or become pure cheese? Some I've seen or would love to see live, Amy, Nicole Willis, Rafael Saadiq, Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, James Hunter, Aloe Blacc, Andy Lewis, Big Boss Man, Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears, PW, Oasis, OCS to name a few... Feel free to add your own take and personal preferences to taste. Remember it's all a matter of opinion.

Permalink Reply by Kai Ahland on August 24, 2012 at 8:19 As for really new bands, I just discovered Brandy Butler and the Fonxionaires who can be compared to Sharon Jones And The Dap Kings in style but are interrestingly based in Switzerland. Also apart from the obvious Strypes I love The Attention! from Vienna when it comes to rather rough R&B. Another promising discovery recently was French Boutik, whose singer Gabriela is a member of MG. Waiting for new releases from Carla Milton and DC Fontana.
