The Society of Cool!
What is your opinion about hats in the Mod looking? Is there an age limit? Is it only good to hide your baldness and show your ears? Are they matching with a GTS scooter or on a Weller haircut (for John)? Or are too serious or too shy to wear them? Would you exchange your breaton cap for a trilby (for Kai)?

By the way, no one is carrying his french bread ("baguette") under his arm in France as it wouldn't be hygienic (and ridiculous), some froggies prefer deodorant than a bread :D
Permalink Reply by Bernard Pereira García on May 17, 2012 at 18:50 Mods wearing french berets? I've never heard about. But some radical youngs wear Vasque berets here in the Vasque Country, so I don't think is an appropiate item for a Mod though there're always options in the way you wear such garment.
Anyway I would wear one if I found a cool way to match it in my head. They have an excellent quality and a thick wool coat that resists everything. They are incredibly comfortable and warm. Specially those ones made in Tolosa (Spain) by Elosegi berets, a manufacturer that supplies berets to all armies in the world.
I had a black & white hoopy shirt ,the same as French onion sellers wore, does that count as a Gaulic influence ? lol Benny Hill had a beret too , don't think he was a mod though lol
I wore on Aussie army bush hat when I rode me scooter,a few of the lads did in those days, reckon
we were influenced by Anzacs meself ? lol

Permalink Reply by Bob Tarlton on May 14, 2012 at 12:42 I'm definitely a hat man when the occasion calls for it. I have a collection which includes a short-brim trilby (the traditional pork pie), a Breton cap, a knitted commando-type cap (early Dexys style) and even a deerstalker....and I've still got tons of hair!
Permalink Reply by Phil Thomsen on May 14, 2012 at 16:51 I am thinking of a pork pie hat these days (and i won't wait winter to buy it!). Which colour is yours, Bob?
Permalink Reply by Bob Tarlton on May 14, 2012 at 17:27 Hi Phil
I went for the standard black number. I bought it from, of all places, the ladies section at H&M. It has a lovely short brim, and is just the job with our current inclement weather. I can't wear hats with too wide a brim as they tend to make me look like a member of a orthodox Jewish synagogue!
Permalink Reply by Phil Thomsen on May 14, 2012 at 22:39 Hi Bob,
Lol, it will depend if yo wear a black suit or not (i did not know you wear a beard ;) )!
Permalink Reply by Bob Tarlton on May 15, 2012 at 16:40 Definitely no black suit or full beard. I don't particularly want to look like one of the Hassidic Blues Brothers!
Permalink Reply by Ben Cooper on May 14, 2012 at 22:09 I've never really been into hats (apart from when an ex of mine had a strange thing for me wearing them lol), but I've always fancied a deerstalker for the winter, but I always seem to like the ridiculously expensive ones, I'm still hoping I can find a nice one within budget.
Permalink Reply by Phil Thomsen on May 14, 2012 at 22:42 I see Ben and the problem with cheap ones is that people will think you go to costume ball representing another Sherlock Holmes!
Permalink Reply by Kai Ahland on May 15, 2012 at 8:36 Ben, look for the earlandbrothers eBay shop, they have a decent deerstalker for 32 GBP. It´s where I get my breton caps and i can say they´re real quality!
