There were good italian ones on the Easy Tempo label, among others. I also have the first two Blow Up compilations (did they do any more at all??) and still quite like them. Been to the Blow Up club several times when it was still at the Wag (ex- Flamingo premises); fond memories, great nights! Though I rather enjoyed the soul and r´n´b, which was played in equal parts too, actually. Went once more in 2004 when it was located in Oxford St, near Tottenham Court Rd; by then it was complete s*** though, imho.

This has some classic tracks from the old - The Quik - Bert's apple crumble, Jacques Dutroric - le responsable {cracking tune} to the modern, Big Boss Man - Humanize . Blow-Up club will always have a special part of my heart. In the early 90's there wasnot a lot going on and when it started at The Laural Tree in Camden it was a breath of fresh air.
Permalink Reply by Kai Ahland on February 9, 2012 at 17:26 Yes I regret I´ve never been to the Laurel Tree, but the Wag was fantastic. Late 90´s they did "Cigarettes and Alcohol" on thursdays, was great, too! Saturdays Blow Up had 60´s Easy/ Soul mix on the upper floor and downstairs was a live band and britpop du jour afterwards. Ahh... sweet memories, really! the two floors concept was copied successfully by quite a few german mod clubs in my region, my second awakening, really!
Permalink Reply by Ben McDermott on February 9, 2012 at 18:15 Not only a good club but had some great bands new and old. In the early days at Laurel Tree I saw Blur and Pulp on the same night. At the Wag I had the pleasure to see Brian Auger {genius}.
Permalink Reply by Kai Ahland on February 9, 2012 at 18:44 Right, Ben, saw Brian Auger (along with Zoot Money!) recently in late November; real down-to-earth guy when you consider he was right there in the 60´s; top Organizer, so to speak. Blur must have been way before Modern Life Is Rubbish, when they still played the Laurel Tree!?
I have some of the compilations they brought out but I never went to any of their nights. Quite like that sort of thing though.
Number 54..the house with the bamboo door,,,bamboo roof and bamboo walls they even got a bamboo floor...
