The Mod Generation

Help! Which Mod songs are good to play on guitar as a learner?

My son 13 year old Morgan is trying to learn guitar and asked me to post this question. He asked me how easy it would be to learn 'That's Entertainment' and what other 'Mod' songs he should try to learn.

I reckon 'That's Entertainment' would a perfect song to learn, but not playing guitar myself, I couldn't give him a good answer of other good tunes.

So in your opinion, which Mod / sixties songs are good to learn to play as an absolute beginner? Really want to encourage him on this so your ideas would be great.

A future Weller awaits your suggestions!

"Magic bus" by The Who is suitable for beginners, and of course "My Generation".

Yes, I think "My Generation" is just perfect for beginners. It has everything: easy chords, easy to sing, everybody know the song and all people like it.

Thanks for your help!

Rowed out by The Eyes.... that's pretty easy.

Gloria by Them.... erm....will have a think and get back to you with more!

Good. Morgan doesn't know them but Mummy does..

Oh...pretty much all the early kinks stuff is easy to play.

Also [not mod before people hassle!] but House Of The Rising Sun is pretty easy. From memory, it's all open chords. Just thump the low E then drag along the other strings and you get the sound..... Good to teach plectrum control....

Will do.Hi Robin!

Excellent, thanks.

Weller doesn't play That's Entertainment like he used as his voice has changed over the years, this is how he plays it now G Em and Am F on the change. If it's difficult to sing get a capo and change the key to whatever suits. Yes Gloria is another easy one E D A all the way.

Oh you muso, you! Thanks Mr Mojo!

Next time Morgan's at one of our gigs I'll show him a couple of songs to get started on.
Not a suggestion for a mod song but just thought i'd pass on something i found helpful, when i was learning guitar i was trying to play the likes of revolution, brown sugar, who are you etc etc got a little frustrated with it cause i didn't find it easy, put it down for a year went back to it & practiced & learned nursery rhymes, imo best way to build up hand movement & a bit of rhythm because they are really simple wee songs & great for a beginner without setting your aims too high to begin with.
