What else besides the Beach boys is good over there? I would imagine rare surf and garage records?
Unfortunately, I don't know much about surf or garage really, but there are great shops out here throughout CA. Live-wise, there are some great bands at the moment. Nick Waterhouse (who I'm guilty of not checking out live yet) has a couple of great R&B 45s out. Also, Nick Rossi is part of a new instrumental R&B band called The PaceSetters, which have a 45 out on LugNut records.
Good things right now out here!

What's interesting about that NW 45 is that he's a local new guy, yet, from what I've heard, that 45 is already commanding northern soul prices.
I should have bought more than 1 copy!

Permalink Reply by Patrick from Parka Avenue on December 10, 2011 at 17:14 Ha! Ha! I knew you would like that one Andrew. The good news is that it's not that expensive.
But let me guess... You already have it...

Permalink Reply by Tyler W. on December 10, 2011 at 20:22 Add another from the States. My girlfriend and I hail from Atlanta, GA. I've been spying this site for some time. Only now have I gotten around to actually setting up a profile.
Anyway, Atlanta has several great soul and RnB DJ's. (Un)fortunately, the trend locally here has been more garage/ psych/ Swirlie oriented. To each their own I suppose, however, for me I find it good in small doses. Je prefere jazz/ soul sounds.
It's good to finally be on here!
