The Society of Cool
Reading down some of the posts in recent weeks I have noticed quite a few people talk about getting a suit made for £500 or so. When I got mine done a couple of years ago I paid £800 for it. I am looking to get another one done soon and have asked a couple of bespoke tailors what price they are looking for and yet again I was quoted around £800. So is the £500 people are referring to for made to measure, or have I been quoted too much for a bespoke made suit ? I am quite sure that everyone knows the difference so I won't go into that.

Permalink Reply by Chris Cameron on February 8, 2012 at 20:32 Cheers guys. I just wanted to be sure I wasn't going bonkers (okay, no comments) as I kept hearing about people getting theirs for £500. My son is getting married in August so I am looking to get a nice light grey bespoke suit done. It means I can wear it to the wedding at the start of August and then down at Brighton for the weekender at the end of the month.
And good point about the location Simon. The tailor that I got my black suit from was saying that the same suit in the centre of London would have set me back £1,500.
Permalink Reply by Graeme Barclay on February 9, 2012 at 18:40 Also with bespoke, you will be required to go back to the tailor for a second or even more likley a third fitting.
With a M to M, the tailor will take your measurements and they will be sent to a factory for where the suit will be cut.
£500.00 is about average for a M to M suit but for a couple of hundred more i'd go bespoke.

My last two suits have been made by Steven Purvis from Glasgow.
Permalink Reply by Graeme Barclay on February 9, 2012 at 19:08 He doesn't mate, he's got a wee back street type shop in the West End of Glasgow where he does all his measuring and cutting etc. Oh and smoking. cough cough LOL
A few of the Glasgow mods use him. He made Paul Molloy's suit for his wedding too.

Permalink Reply by Chris Cameron on February 9, 2012 at 18:52 Yip, spot on Graeme. I was telling you that the last one I had done the tailors was co owned by wee Kevin Harper who used to play for Hibs. I was certainly back and forward a few times getting it done. Its a pity they are no longer in business as they did some amazing shirts made to measure too.
And good on you there Paul, £500 is a good price. Almost worth my while to come down to Yorkshire and get my new one ha ha.
Permalink Reply by Graeme Barclay on February 9, 2012 at 19:27 I never knew they went out business, I did here though that they were quite expensive, not sure if that reason was connected or not.
Permalink Reply by Chris Cameron on February 9, 2012 at 20:16 Their shirts were £120 quid. Which although a lot of dosh is only about £30 more than the Camiche one's that were on sale at that shop in Buchanan shopping centre.

Permalink Reply by Small Paul on February 9, 2012 at 18:44 I suppose it really depends on wear you live. Here is Sheffield you're looking at £500-£600 for bespoke (cloth depending)
Permalink Reply by Graeme Barclay on February 9, 2012 at 18:56 I'm in Edinburgh Paul and TBH, you'd be lucky to even get a M to M for £500.00 here.
In saying that - 100% woolen fabrics.
