Martha Reeves and the Vandellas. Glasgow Arches Sunday July 18th. One of the Greatest Nights Ever

Just exactly how good last night was is difficult to put into words really, but its worth a try.

The amazing night started off in the Crystal Palace bar and there was a great show from the Roadrunners as well as the usual suspects of Andy, Algie (late as usual) Jo, and Margaret. I am not sure if April is aligned to the Roadrunners but she was there too in all her Mod glory.

The actual gig itself was fantastic. Any chances that the legend that is Martha Reeves could not hack it at the young age of 69 was quickly dispelled as she gave us the concert of a lifetime and sang all the tracks that we know and love such as 'Come and Get These Memories,' 'Heatwave,' and 'Dancing in the Streets.' After the gig she came out to the audience and signed CD's, posters, and other memorabillia. I got my 1980 20 Tamla Motown Mod Classics signed by her to 'The Glasgow Mods' and got a kiss too...absolutley incredible: as well as being a Motown Mod legend she was also a fantastic person. I think I along with everyone else actually floated out of the gig I was on such a high.

After such a amazing gig we went round to a nearby bar and stayed there until around 1 am. Great company from Andy, Jo, Angie, and April it has to be said. like all great nights it had to end at some point and we went our separate ways after the bar shut. All that remained to cap it off was to go home, go up to my Mod loft room and listen to a Martha Reeves and the Vandellas CD.

If you were there you will know just exactly how great the night was. If you were not I am sorry to say cats, that you missed one of the greatest Mod/Soul legends giving us a night we will never forget plus loads of her personal time afterwards: Martha Reeves we thank you from the bottom of our Mod hearts.

Nice one mate.
It was a fantastic night Chris, Martha did us all proud from start to finish, it was Mod Heaven from start to finish from the Lady Of Motown, wasn't "Jimmy Mack" just effin' AMAZING!! Good to see everyone who turned up, even the younger Mods were loving it BIG TIME!!! This is what music is all about, we were at The Ronettes concert last year at The Archies, just who hear these artist sing the songs we have grown up from day one, is something money just can't buy, Martha Reeves, Glasow last night belonged to you!!!

Cheers Jim, and you are spot on Charlie. These were the songs and artists that we all cherished as young Mods and to see such a legend live was fantastic. The place was packed which was great to see and there was all sorts of age ranges, from people who may have been around when Martha and the Vandellas were doing their stuff in the 1960s to youngers Mods who would not have even been around when we were going up to the Scene and Lindella. Great music and great company as ever, and personally speaking I was in seventh heaven just being in the same arena as the legendary Martha Reeves. Apart from Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, Martha and the Vandellas are my favourite Motown group so it really could not have been much better. I was talking to a black American guy called Tony who was with the Vandellas entourage and he was asking how would I compare Martha Reeves and the Vandellas to the supremes. To me there is no comparison, Martha Reeves and the Vandellas win by a country mile. I wonder what the chances of Diana Ross coming in to meet the fans after a gig would be.
tell everybody about the other kiss you got chris hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha wot a stunner hahahahahahahahahahahaha
No way Mr Doyle, we don't want Catweazel coming on here looking for me. But I never thought I would see the day that Terry Hurlock gave me a kiss for ten bob ha ha.
These days if you say hello to any star, they have 9 bouncers on you and you get branded a "stalker" they crave money, fame and publicity, but they don't want their fans, I don't like Diana Ross as a person, the music I respect, but Martha Reeves is one of my favourites on the Motown label, a true star in the meaning of the word, class!!

Raging I missed this, pulled out due to lack of funds, don't want to hear anything else about it, close the thread please stevie.
It was some night Paolo. I have a funny feeling that everyone who was there and who is on this site will be coming on with their own stories of how much they enjoyed it.

I'm still grinin' the day,and suspect i will be for a while to come, a true legend playing to a legendary crowd, oh i and i must thank Dunc fae the Privates for gettin me on the guest list where the tickets were only a tenner, aye a tenner Paul.
28.50 i was told. swine
I think the majority of us paid £27.50 Paolo, which was cheap considering just how great a night it was. It was only a few jammy sods that got in for a tenner.
