Permalink Reply by Chris Cameron on January 30, 2012 at 16:31 Great night once again Jim. A few beers, good company, and seeing a Motown legend before a packed out crowd. Not many things could better that.

Permalink Reply by Andy Ingram on January 31, 2012 at 10:46 Hi everyone, sounds like you had a good night. What was Martha's performance like? I've got the opportunity to see her in York tomorrow night, but I'm a bit undecided wether to go. I saw her on Jools Holland a couple of years ago and was devastated at how poor she sounded. You obviously all had a great night, but was it the event itself or did she also perform really well too? The Jools Holland thing was a while back and it might have just been a duff night and lack of preparation.
Don't get me wrong, she's a real star, but If the voice has gone, I think I'd rather remember her with a cracking voice on grainy black & white clips. What do you think?
Permalink Reply by Chris Cameron on January 31, 2012 at 12:45 Well the first time was saw her was a year and a half ago. We were actually talking about her performance on Jools Holland and how bad it had been. She was brilliant that night in July 2010 and she was yet again very good on Sunday night. Its hard to say one way or another, but I always feel that performers do their best work when there is a great atmosphere and both concerts had that in bundles. At the end of the day Martha is over 70 now and I suppose she is not going to be quite as good as in her 1960s heyday. But she is still a great performer if her gigs up here are anything to judge by.
