The Society of Cool
This is for Mods ' of a certain age' who have found and follow the preppy look, I have posted before that I spent some years in the rag trade and since have enjoyed and visited some of the finest mens shops in the mostly London, I am a regular at Saville row ( window shopping ) Bond street and everywhere I can stare at good mens attire.
On Saturday I was passing a shop I have known for many, many years but have never been in, the shop it's Mewes Menswear in Sunninghill Berkshire, its situated on double yellow lines and a swine to park but as I was passing I noticed a free parking spot and although I have a car full of family I could not miss the chance to stop and pop in ( just for a quick look ) I said.
I looked in the window and without knowing what I was doing my hand was on the door handle and I was in, I stood there for a moment to take it in, it was one of those moments you will never forget, It was wonderful, I said hello and was greeted politely and started my tour, everywhere I looked got better, from Eton and Gant button downs to Osca Jacobsen prince of wales trousers, Trumpers mens perfumery and superb lighweight American blazers together with a great range of loafers from Sebago etc .plus much, much more.
I could write for hours, if this is your scene, and it is mine, and you are anywhere near the area, get in there, hopefully you agree
Mewes & Son, Sunninghill is the best mens shop in the world.
ps , I'm going back on my own, debit card look out !

I have known John for many years and The Ivy Shop was the shop of choice for us, and John's shop in Covent garden was also very good, different from the Ivy shop, but still following on from the tradition he started.
But Mewes is something else, its not aimed at young trendy guys into jazz and there's nothing wrong with that if it's your ' bag man ' and I guess you may say it only caters for men with a certain something, and thats money because it aint cheap but I am of the opinion it's better to have 1 good thing that loads of cheaper tosh.
Now which 1 thing shall I buy ? I love those Jacobsen Prince of Wales trousers.

I have those and the brogues both from John, I actually prefer them to my Royals.
I consider myself so lucky to be able have nice shoes, as a nipper I had floor lino in my shoes to stop the water coming in so i really do appreciate what I have now.
