Mickey Oates

Your thoughts on Mickey Oates at the Broomielaw circa late 70s early 80s.

Had some bad experiences having 150cc Vespa serviced by above 1979, so did not appear in

famous Glasgow Mods Evening Times pic.

Any memories?

Only ever bought accessories from mickey oates,always dealt with the scooter centre for repairs, The mechanic they had knew his stuff, a couple of the other boys used mickey oates and all was ok! But im talking circa 82-83!!

The Evening Times article with everyone on the scooters was done in October 81 John. The first Mod revival double pager they did was in 79 and was taken down in Glasgow Green and featured guys such as Tony Taylor, Steph Thompson, and Jason Sloss.

I bought my first scooter from Mickey Oates in April 1981. I also thought, due to its location, that it was a great place for meeting other Mods. But they were not the greatest mechanically and a bit expensive. But I have fantastic memories from the time and thought that MO was a big part of the Glasgow Mod scene from 79 to 83.
