I always liked The Chords. The British Way Of Life is great [as is most of their other stuff]. Purple Hearts were good too and also listen to The Small Hours & Les Elite from time to time..... There are a few other odd tracks that I really like but don't really know too much about the bands [opening up by The Circles for instance]. I guess from your reference to the Gents and Times that we are about the same age and missed the revival by a few years....

Good call Glen,The Chords have some cracking songs,Maybe Tomorrow,Somethings Missing,British etc.The Glory Boys album by Secret Affair is still a favourite of mine as well, lots of 1 hit wonders from that period.I recently played the "Sawdust Ceasers" album and had forgot half the bands on there.

no mate i was there in 79 was only 13 but missed a lot of these bands, just went under my radar lol. to busy listening to secret affair, the lambrettas,s ect. was a bit lazy looking for other bands. now digging up these bands and kicking myself.

There does seem to be a certain amount of snobbery towards some of the revival bands at times. I have to say that I have always liked a lot of the music that came out from that period, and probably always will.

Hi, I like The Chrods too, they are great. I also like The Jam.

The Jam mostly and Secret Affair, some of the stuff by The Chords and The Purple Hearts were ok but didn't care much for the rest.

Maybe Tomorrow was a stand out track; my favourite band from that period are the Purple Hearts, although they were far better in the studio than live. Saw them in ´85 I think, after their Pop Frenzy album (it was called that, wasn´t it!?). Loved the Merton Parkas, too, when I became a mod; don´t know why they are often ridiculed these days? (Mr Andy H?) Later (and 1-2 years was much later at that age) I was truly obsessed with Ed Ball and his Times. Wish he was still around (not just doing Times revival gigs, I mean).

it,s the sharp sound of these bands i,m loving all over again. i think opening up by the cicles, totally captures the spirt of the time.

Yes mate, great track!

yeah the Chords were my favourite of those bands, was good to see them not to long back actually as I was slightly too young to catch them live the first time. I don't think i liked any of the others too  much, apart from The Purple Hearts I guess, and of course The Jam. I liked the punk rock type mod bands. Secret Affair used brass and Merton parkas seemed a bit silly. I guess I am still a punk now lol

Actually Kai I do have the Merton Parkas L.p and some singles and they were catchy, but I just didn't think they were that cool. I can't remember ridiculing them actually lol, I think I'll start being a bit nicer from now on ha ha . I know I ridiculed Secret Affair and even had my say about them on the Mods V Rockers documentary but they cut it out, which is for the best really cos their biggest fan Graeme Barclay is a good lad and I didn't want to upset him :) If I had known about The Chesterfield Kings and the Garage band revival at the time I would have followed them instead as I do now .

Secret Affair´s Behind Closed Doors and Business... never really sounded mod to me at all. Musically they were somewhere between Spandau Ballet and Ultravox. Yes I know i got myself a lot of enemies now, hahaha. Time For Action was OK...for 15 yr old me :-) Recently got myself an LP by The Jolt, wasn´t aware of them as a kid. Were rather quite punk, too!

The first Ultravox album is punk rock, not the crap they did with Midge, the first singer.
