Permalink Reply by Liz Paris on February 11, 2012 at 18:19 Think I definitely agree John, I've owned about 5 minis all the original shape, hate the new mini it is far too big to be a mini and is a complete monstrosity in my opinion, unfortunately had to get rid of my mini cooper due to it not being pram friendly when my daughter was born. I think if I had to go for a modern day car to be mod it would be the Fiat 500, they've kept the shape and size fairly true to the original, having said that I don't own one though.

Permalink Reply by John Paterson on February 11, 2012 at 16:39 I think an accepted modern day car that could be said to be Mod, is a bloody hard thing to acheive. For instance there are mods who think a modern era PX should never be modded up or a GP lambretta is mung lookin a s a mod scooter. Conundrum or what! Or just different Taste!
Permalink Reply by hubert davenport on February 11, 2012 at 19:07 ive had old retro cars and they can be a pain
hard to get parts for and tempramental
i'm running one of these now
the bootrack gives it an old mg type look IMO
i was also going to get the hard top sprayed but i think i'll keep it green !
i wasnt sure about the gold colour of the car itself at first but what with the hardtop ive accidentally ended up with the old lotus colours !
its individual if nowt else !
and a bit of a retro car ........but without the wait for the breakdown truck
Permalink Reply by JB on February 11, 2012 at 20:47 Well you can see some of my past old bangers on page 2 or 3 of the main photo pages. But for now, being poor as I am I would go for another Suzuki Vitara convertable early model. Reasons: Soft top great with hood off in the summer, but still practical in wet weather (and we have lots here in the UK). Early model has less plastic body parts and would be ripe for respray in own colours. It's a 4x4 which is great for me down here in Devon, but it's not a serious looking 4x4 unless you do suspension mods and give it a lift kit (which can look awsome). It can be modded up, fitted with a smart looking chrome front bull bar with spot lights and given chrome wheels, including the spare which fits high up on the back and looks good if chrome. And like scooters, it's fun to drive, not a serious vehicle. It has four seats so good for family or friends and you could squeeze an overnight/weekend bag/case behind the back seats too. Cheap at between £500 to £1,000 to buy. I did say I'm poor.
This is one of my past Vit's. I can't afford a scooter and one of these so at 62 y o. I think it will be one more of these for this summer, which will please my 17 year old son as we cruise the seafronts playing load music. Yes I'm so immature !
We have a Figaro - for when we can't fit everything on the Lambretta! Its a very cool car and can't imagine driving anything else!
Permalink Reply by JB on February 11, 2012 at 21:34 I thought i knew what they were but have just Googled it. They look really outa sight, modern but retro look. Are they all convertables or is yours a hard top? What colour? They look to be usually green or grey? Presume it is 2 seater and do you squeeze the dj gear in there somewhere?
