The Society of Cool
I personally think monkey boots are classed as 'mod shoes' but there are mixed opinions on this. Just wondering what everyone else thinks really?

I had a pair when i was about 12 in the 80's ,but that was then,i would never have a pair nowadays though.Like what David said more a Skin /Scooter girl thing, you would never see mods wearing them .
Permalink Reply by Martin G on February 4, 2012 at 20:30 I believe the popularist 'Mod' connection goes back to Weller wearing a pair on the front of ALL MOD CONS. Obviously with many young Mods or would be Mods of the period looking at him as the 'template' of how to dress the trend for them amongst Mods began. For me though they really are shocking looking things and I always remember them being worn by kids in the early 1970s as a cheap alternative to the more durable and comfortable, but expensive, Doctor Marten boot. I had a pair myself during a period of work when boots were insisted upon. I didn't want to spend a ton of money on boots so nabbed a pair of the things and they literally crippled me. My feet were bleeding and bruised by the end of the day wearing them and I remember walking home the last half mile or so bare foot. "Mr Weller you have a lot to answer for"

Permalink Reply by JB on February 6, 2012 at 18:44 Who gives a f---k what Weller wore. weller isn't God and isn't the Mod god either. It's such a shame now. Understand this : In the 60's Mods, that is the kids on the street, decided what was cool and what wasn't. Mods were individuals, kids on the streets, who had a common liking for SIMILAR THINGS. We didn't all dress the same but we dressed in a similar style. WE DID NOT FOLLOW THE 'STARS,' IDOLS, POP LEGENDS, ETC... We led the way not followed. Remember the story about The WHO being 'dressed up' by their manager to look like Mods. What i'm saying is don't follow, Liam=Pretty Green, Weller, or anyone else that think they big news. Mod is a street thing, not about following idols.
