The Mod Generation

The Society of Cool

I personally think monkey boots are classed as 'mod shoes' but there are mixed opinions on this. Just wondering what everyone else thinks really?

So can I assume that because you all mostly think they are crap that they were not worn by Mods !, please guys dont be just guided by what you have read, that too is mostly crap.

You may also consider hush puppies in a similar way, very popular but now extinct.

I loved Hush Puppies, had a brown pair that weren't the real Mc'coy but smart, when they got a bit messy i dyed em blue, yeh i know blue suede shoes uh huh huh ! but they looked good in blue with red socks.

monkey boots are bloody horible. i would say in my head they are 110% not mod nothing to them at all only good for putting a boot in hence why the skins liked then because of the tred on them and sorry j,b dont class d.m's mod neither i leave them for the boneheads mate just my opinyen

You are talkin absolute keech mate. Monkey boots are petite and light, hence girls wearing them. Yes, Skinhead girls do wear them and no not particulary Mod, but neither are trendy Parkas and baggy Jeans either.

Obviously not to everyone's taste but Oxblood Monkey boots polished and worn with white Sta Prest, to me look the business. But that's just my opinion. It's a smart and clean look.

As for just boneheads wearing Doc Martens is just ill informed nonsense. If you look at the back drop pic on this Forum, 2 blokes on the Lammy, the one in the back is wearing Doc Martens...

not noncence mate just the way my mind is and will stay that way its each to there own and ill never ware a pair of d.m's not my cuppa t and dont think they are much to look at u hardly stand out from the croud with a pair of bonehead boots thats why i acualy like jam shoes not for the fact paul weller wore them the fact that so many or u wont wear them im pretty much the only one that will lol. i dont know for certain but i speak to 80s mods and they said the boneheads wore monkey boots for the reson of being lighter then d.m's and with a big tred so good for a kick in.

no bagy jeans aint particualy mod thats why true mods tend not to wear baggy jeans as far as i know any way as for parkas as im sure u know they are for keeping ur suit clean not for fasion but has grown in to a mod imiage i acualy own one for this resaon but i acualy like the fact mods wear parkas its are thing i supose.

Kicking someone with a pair of Monkey boots on would be like kicking someone in your slippers.

"Getta grip" Boots (not to be confused with DMs) are normally favoured by Boneheads and Gay Skinheads. No smart Skinhead would be seen dead in them.

mate im not saying skinhead im not bringing the cool skinheads in to this im talking about the bonehead racists lol

ive never wore monkey boots so dont know how they feel just been told storys mate im a 3rd gen mod so wasnt about when these were big as such

erm...i've been a skinhead for a long long long time and used to wore Getta Grips and NEVER HAVE BEEN a f*** bonehead and im not gay (as far as i remember!), and i think i always tried to pay attention to my style. It was a matter of according them with the right trousers, always polished to death. And i agree with other comments about monkeys, very most worn by skinhead girls (the rare guys to try that were a good laughing at ;)

Been kicking about myself for a year or 20, and Getta grips are not considered smart footwear regardless of how polished they are. Hideous monstrosities.

Will reiterate that they are "favoured" by Boneheads and Gay Skinheads over here. If you wore them then up to you mate, but wouldn't get upset over it. Your a Mod now anyway.

Cheers

Not upset at all mate, i was defending my point of view (and once more, never been gay or bones' hahaha) ;) I don't know if you tried those once, but i really love to walk with these shoes. Felt like my feet was armored, and really not uncomfortable at all unlike they seems to be.

But you're right, i prefer real smarter thing today and anyway, this brand is dead since over 10 years as it's made in Asia.

No feelings.

Cheers

Well done Colin, probs wouldn't wear DM's in the town but down ere in deepest Devon they are very practical, wipe clean easily after going out in the rain etc.. And the DM steel toe caps, i don't fink anyone will believe this, I got them for £1 at a recycling centre. Down ere in Devon we have places callled recycling centres that sell off stuff that other people chuck away, and people chuck away bloody good stuff too !  The people that run the recycling centres don't have a clue and sell stuff really cheap.

wish i had places like that here mate 1pound what a bargin. obviouly got charity shops but some of them are chargeing a fair bit now they think there selling new clothes lol
