The Mod Generation

The Society of Cool!

I'm rather new to the whole Mod scene, and I'd really appreciate any tips/pointers anyone had for me? I'm also writing a mini-book called 'The Guide Book for Aspiring Modettes', so anything to help me there would also be of great help :) x

Don't use the word Modettes ;). Welcome btw.

I only really use that to help when I'm explaining to people what I am etc, even so I think it has a nice ring to it! But thanks :p x

Are you worried that people might mistake you for a man ;), sorry couldn't resist, I'm only messing, each to there own I say but I've personally never thought the word mod to be male specific.

If you stick around here long enough you'll soon develop you own vision of mod, everyones experience is different, and there's some great posters on here that, like me, you'll learn a lot from.

Ah right haha, well thanks for the help anyway :p x

I was just about say that Ben! LOL! Good call! I've often said that word is a dirty word.

And to The Mo-dettes, Mod was a dirty word.  ;-)

Its strange how THAT word has been used so often, When we were running around all the Mod girls took grave exception to being called a Modette. I also don't think it was ever used in the 60s. It seems like it just took off after a band were called The Modettes and people not in the know assumed that all Mod girls were called Modettes.

Ah okay! Thanks for that :) big help! So would they mostly just go by Mod Girls then? X

Yeah Alex. Most girls or women that I know who are or were into the scene would not have been chuffed at being called a modette. They would possibly have assumed that the person saying it did not have a scooby ha ha.

Well thanks, I didn't know that! I first got in to the scene by a friend of mine who's a Mod; he and his other Mod friends called them Modettes so I've pretty much just become used to the term :p I'd never heard them called much else really x

It might be regional.  The status of any word, especially slang, is largely regional.

Welcome to the clan Alex!

I do not think anyone should be telling another what to do to much...but as a preference, although this life has a sense of style from some more glamorous days from the past also remember that great cothes are being made ,.. and great music being created now...so I live in today.

There are loads of pointers on here in past forums about where to get clothes, what new music is happening and where mod events and nights are taking place...and even more budding experts! laughs
