The Mod Generation

The Society of Cool!

I have been on the mod scene for a few months now, but I'm still relatively new to it as:

a) I'm still a kid so I can't get a scooter, go to clubs or get a job.

b) Like I say, I can't get a job so I can't really afford designer gear.

c) There isn't really much demand for mod places in Wishaw (west of Scotland) town centre.

If anyone has any tips then don't hesitate to say. Also, if anyone can give me some good artists, songs etc. If anyone knows anywhere in Glasgow or the surrounding area an early-teen mod can go, I'm open to suggestions :)

Hi Liam, First of all I would ask what it was that made you interested in the mod scene? The mod scene is interpreted in lots of ways. Also some mods are more into the music, whilst some are more into the style and some are more into the scooters.

Just go with what you like and be aware of the mod snobs!!! It's in your blood mate.

Try listening to Motown/Atlantic Soul, Northern Soul( Although I'm not that into Northern) Listen to 60's beat/R&B bands such as The Small faces, The Who, Kinks and Spencer Davies group. If you are into the mod revival days, then you have bands like The Jam, Secret Affair and Two Tone Ska bands like The Beat, Selecter, specials and Madness.

You will know what you like!!!

Buy some dessert boots, a fred perry polo and a Fish tale parka, and you wont go far wrong.

Enjoy

LIFE IS A DRINK AND YOU GET DRUNK WHEN YOU´RE YOUNG!

(just metaphorically of course,Liam!)

Are you sure it's only metaphorically, Kai?!

No, but I don´t want to encourage any 15 yr olds, hahaha! I know in France they start on the red wine as soon as they get to school, lol!

.

well my dad was a mod when he was young, the man next door is a mod with a vespa, I've always liked the jam and the who and oasis and then i watched Quadrophenia and i got hooked. it really just went from there :)

Mate try amazon for ben sherman n fred perry or anythin really just had a look and some good deals on there its a bit cheaper than the norm prices i think. Dependin on ye age you might be able to get jsa im on that ent very good but if you save it up its alrite. Also have a look in charity shops people on here have told me there good and i swear i remember some bloke getting a ben sherman polo for like £3 on here once lol.

Heck, I have a gang of Ben Sherman button ups from thrift shops... Usually around $7.00. Brooks brothers too. But if you have a bit if cash, deffo tj maxx. Nothing like a couple of new garments to go with the used stuff.

getcha yourself a copy of "A to Z Of Mod" which has chapters on clothes, cars, scooters, music (from Jazz onwards), clubs. Mod is a wide "church" and some bits won't appeal and it isnt about wearing a parka.

You might also want to join Brandalley and secret sales and look at the outlet departments. You will often find Gabbicci, Ben Sherman, Merc, John Smedley etc at rock bottom prices.

At Liams age mod is about wearing a parka. He just has to! He´ll know when the time has come to abandon it (hopefully). Don´t tell me you didn´t wear a parka at 15, Steve ;-))

of course i did !!!  rode a Vespa 50 Special too like almost everyone else. Just think that parkas (esp those with badges etc) just like scooters with mirrors and lights is not what its all about it. Sure at 15 have fun, experiment but the further away you get from the tabloid view on mod the more interesting it becomes.
