The Society of Cool!
Hi all,
I’m new to the mod fashion and I would need your help before ordering polo shirts on the net. First of all I have to present myself. I am living in Toulouse, France. In the week I wear Hugo Boss suits, white classic shirts and ties. Working in a bank, see what I mean ? I am 55, have always been listening to the Who, the Kinks and the Small Faces since I was 15. Today I still collect garage and power-pop vinyl singles. The mod scene is something that is totally unknown in France, but to my concern I find mod clothes very classy and of good taste.
At 55 my problem is with size. At work I usually wear M shirts, but they are not slim fit. After browsing many websites (Atom Retro, Gabicci1973 outlet on eBay.uk, Modclothin’, Adaptor Clothing…), the question is still the same : which size shall I take ? For instance I recently bought a L polo from Original Penguin, well it is too small. This is quite amazing.
How do you proceed when you buy online ? Do you always buy the same brand when you know if fits you well ? How many times can you return an item that does not fit ? Do you always begin with entering a real shop, where you can try clothes before buying ?
Can someone guide me through the different brands (Gabicci, Fred Perry, Merc, Ben Sherman, Art Gallery…) and tell me how they size.
Thanks for helping.

Welcome aboard Varluche.
I usually stick to brands that I know will fit when shopping online.
If I encounter any of these shops in the high street I always make a point of trying on a good selection of their clothing to get a good idea of their sizing.
If I'm not sure of a shop's/brand's sizing I might buy for example a small and a medium and send back the size that doesn't fit.
I hope this helps.

It' very simple. Just take your measurements and then ask to sellers. At first you may have bad surprises with clothes because even in the same brands, you have different fit.
Anyway, i am french and near Toulouse, so if you want to chat for a while in french, maybe it will be more simple and i will explain many tricks you can avoid buying clothes...
P.S. i sent you a friend request.
