The Society of Cool
Me and a mate were having a burger stood on the corner of oxford street where it intersects with tottenham court road, my nudged me and said that the guy standing a few feet from us looked a dead ringer for mick talbot, on closer inspection, it was. Oh my god !!! there we were standing face on with the guy who was weller's Spar !!! , totally gobsmacked but playing it cool i resisted the temptation to approach him. we had decided that we were gonna stay fixed to that spot for as long as mick stood there, obviously he was waiting for someone, so we continued , one eye on mick and one eye on people watching, a double decker bus pulled up across the road and who should get off and walk towards us , Paul Weller. i had a million and one emotions running through me, i was transfixed, so much so that i could not believe what i was witnessing , the sod got away from my clutches , the chance to say hi or shake his hand was lost as mick and paul briskly made tracks . [ this was around the time of the release of the first style council lp, i had grown up on the jam , weller was my idol, to have seen in outside of familiar settings was a shock lol !!!!

Permalink Reply by Kai Ahland on February 23, 2012 at 21:39 Stood in front of the Lonsdale shop window in Beak St in 1988 while a mate who was an ABSOLUTE Style Council fanatic was inside the shop. All of a sudden Mick Talbot stood beside me having a look at the window display. By the time I´d called my mate outside he´d gone; he probably thinks I took the piss to this very day...
Permalink Reply by Chris Cameron on February 24, 2012 at 8:16 We met Rick Buckler on his way up to the sound check when The Jam played the old Apollo in April 82. We had not been aware that the public were allowed in to see the sound check so we all went in which was brilliant. I still have that autograph today.
