The Society of Cool!
I'm here to see what designs people would like to see in scarves - material, lengths, patterns, colours, etc. What are your favourite designs? I've seen a lot of the paisley's floating around, but was wondering what you guys and gals were digging on here.
I have just made a custom one-off scarf for none other than Mr Bradley Wiggins, and have now started a brand new range of gent's hand made scarves. The first run of limited edition designs are well under way, but for future purposes, what's your personal preferences....? Let me know, as I'm intrigued to know what makes each of you's tick.
For those who don't know me yet on here, I'm a fashion designer based in Sheffield who makes hand made clothing for my label Cálle Modista. Heavily inspired by the mod and 60's fashions, my motto is hand made is the only way to go for a true mod...

Cheers for the quick reply! I've seen a lot of the Pretty green designs, and I have to say that I'm impressed by the paisley's being used. I've got a paisley material in at the minute, so I'll be making one of those up this weekend. I like the suggestion of the double sided scarf - there's also one of those coming out in my debut range, with a plain navy blue on one side and a deep yellow and navy polka dot on the opposite side. Then I'm inverting it, so it'll be a plain deep yellow, with a navy underside with yellow polka dots.
On here, I have a photo of the materials and patterns I'm using for my first batch. I'll also hopefully going to be adding photo's of the Bradley Wiggins scarf as soon as I get the go ahead to do so. So I'll keep you posted on it.
Cheers again Andrew,

Permalink Reply by Mod Goddess on August 10, 2012 at 9:33 Congrats on designing one for Wiggo! How'd that happen??!! Would you do consider doing women's ones also?
Not that I'm suggesting that you'd rip off her designs, but a friend of mine in Tsmania - Sharon Heritage - also makes and designs her own scarves if you want to get some ideas!
I personally like geometric patterns - concentric circles (as opposed to a cliche Mod target); chequered patterns etc. If you consider doing some for women, look up Vera scarves for some inspiration. Very Mod, very colourful.

Great suggestions there!! I'm out today sourcing some concentric patterned material, as my next batch will be including women's scarves too, so I'll be keeping you posted on them. I totally agree about the clique Mod target - although I like to see it - I always try and steer clear of it in my designs. For me, all the part-time mod's think if they slap that on their parka, they're in the club. haha. I'll defintiely have a look at Tsmania's scarves too, thanks ever so much for the link.
The Wiggins scarf came from an enquiry from his press officer, as I've designed bespoke items for high profile clients before, and it was very coincidental that it was on the day he won his gold medal! To say I was chuffed was an understatement. haha. I'm just putting the finishing touches to it, and it'll be sent off hopefully by Monday. After he's approved, I'll post some photo's of the making of it and the finished article on here.
Cheers again

But my favourite is a black one with yellow polka dots on one side and yellow pin dots on the other. Only problem is it´s too skinny/ narrow. So if you have a black one with yellow dots in a decent width I´ll be glad to order!
Permalink Reply by Leontine Hawley on August 10, 2012 at 16:50 That's a gorgeous scarf you've got there Kai. Really deep colours and great pattern.
I should be able to make you one just how you want it in terms of width, and in the colours you want too. I'm out sourcing material over the coming few days, so I will get hold of some of what you are after, upload the photo, and if you approve, we can take it form there. Thanks for the input - it's superb to hear from people with their personal preferences. Take care for now, L x

Permalink Reply by Leontine Hawley on August 11, 2012 at 12:09 What material would you be thinking of? Cotton would be the cheaper option, but if you wanted a silk material it would cost a fair bit more. I can certainly re-create the scarf but at 18cm wide, no problem at all. If it was a cotton scarf I can do it for £20 + p&p, and I can even customise it so it is a one-off just for you. Are the polka dots yellow or more of a gold colour? L x
Permalink Reply by Kai Ahland on August 11, 2012 at 19:32 It´s rather gold but yellow would be ok. Cotton would be fine, too! Let me know if you get hold of something! K x
Permalink Reply by Leontine Hawley on August 11, 2012 at 19:41 I think I may have something coming in for it. It's black with yellow polka though. As soon as it's in I'll upload a photo for you. I'll then talk through the fringing of the ends of the scarf and other little details. Take care for now, L x
