The Mod Generation

The Society of Cool!

sick of hearing the word QUADROPHENIA ? and all the references to it ? or is it just me.....

guess i should come clean, i HATE quadrophenia ! i loved it when it 1st came out, i watched it 12 times ! lol, but found it just made me very deppressed and havent gone near it since and dont own it on dvd with no intentions of ever doing so, no disresopect to those on here who love the film, but i just wish it would stop getting referenced with regards to modism, does my head in...am i alone ? each to his own ofcourse, and im not trying to start a row here, guess ive just grown sick of seeing it everywhere, i understand the major importance of the film in 79, and how it spurned a major revival worldwide, its just now i get a headache when people go to me ''mods ? oh like qaudrophenia''  NO !!! lol....any thoughts on this ? ironic i should mention it, seeing as my feelings towards it are less than favorable...:-D

Hi Kai,lol THERE IS A SEQUEL BEING MADE IN 2012,lol!!!!!!!! BTW the musical was the effin' biz!!!!!!!!  I have the poster for it as a souvenir, I love musicals, still got a soft spot for ''Oliver'' my childhood fave saw it when  I was 8 year old in the cinema, go see the ''Quadrophenia'' musical it will surprise you.

Don´t know...all this Phil Collins Tarzan and Lion King rubbish really puts me off... About the sequel, where will it take us? The birth of hippie or skinhead in 1966? Can´t imagine...

i dont mind it,think they f***** up on the clothes overpowering the revival in 78 79 rather than 64

Clark, mod is clothes. There's only one thing higher than that and that is attitude (being a teenager). After clothes comes clubbing and music, hence the clothes and showing off (somewhere to be seen). After that you need to get to and from a club and that's where the scooter comes in.

I love Quadrophenia, reminds me of my youth, but i can understand getting pissed off with the Pretty Green, connection, and putting Mod on the " Highstreet "which is the complete opposite of what the concept of " Mod " was all about......

its just you :)

Loved it and still do. A bit of 80's nostalgia for those of us around at the time but mostly just a great film. If you watch the making of it too you realise just what efforts were put in to keep it a quality film, stuff you would never get away with today. Must watch it again...soon.

As you say Paul 'each to his own' and to be honest i respect you for actually saying it on this website.

I for one love it, truly love it, i still watch it on a regular basis and find myself quoting lines without even knowing i'm doing it!!!

It did spurn a new generation and reminds so many of there youth (me for one) so for that fact it has to be respected, yeah Joe Public do refer to it a lot when speaking to any mod but also they also to refer to Brighton, 'big green coat's' and loads of mirrors, cliche's but its there reference point, bless em...

Just think about this...the rumours of a remake have been around for a few years now and if it came off and they made it with the young actors the kids these days can relate to and adore and it spurned another revival, you're back to square one Paul and the ride starts all over again...be prepared!!!

It's just a film, actors acting, they are not mods. You can't base a cult on a film, talk to some of the old boys about how it really was. Alan Fletcher tried to squeeze a few years into a 2 hour film. I do like the film, but it had nothing to do with me becoming involved with the mod scene :)

thanks for replying guys :-) its not that i think its a crap film, far from it, its a classic film and will go down (as it is already) as 1 of the greats of british filming, and ile be forever grateful for the line ''watch the cloth moth'' lol..and as for acuracy, i never mentioned anything bout that, my gripe was its everywhere mod is mentioned and im tired of it is all, doesnt mean im angry or going to stop logging on or talking my mates, (who most love the film, tho some share my views) no,its just grown a bit tired for me..for me theres so much more to mod than the film, and FOR ME its a bit of over load..bit like targets, etc, even tho i do feel associated with that in some way, seeing as we all grew up with it when we discovered mod, and i was once very much into the film, (79 till bout 82)...ofcourse, if there was to be sequal, ide be 1st in the que to see it, i do own the book btw, lol..my point is, because it 'seems' to a be major reference point for mod, and not just by joe public either) i know it effected a LOT of people in there youth, me included, im just sick of the sight of it everywhere...and stings suit is crap ! lmao...in all honesty i respect everybody for there tastes and who knows, maybe i should give it a watch (get someone to buy me it for xmas, lol)...as for pretty green etc, one thing the mainstream could never do was infiltrate modism, we let them in only as so far to see what we can use for our own benifit, pick whats cool, and then drop it, were too sussed for em, thanks again fellas, i appreciate ya comments...:-)

Love the album.

Love the film.

Love the way it made me feel when I first watched it at 12/13 years old and the way it brings back that feeling 30 years later.

Mod was never a revival, The Jam were round before ''Quadrophenia'' it was bound to happen, I will always be grateful for it, who gives a toss about accuracy in the movie it told you how felt through music and vision, a guy made a comment on one of my videos about the discerning 60's Mod would never be seen dead wearing a fishtail parka and ''Quadrophenia'' being laughable and the Mods in it not being believable. My reply was get a parka on and stop being a Rocker in Mod clothing!!!!!!! The ''Quadrophenia'' soundtrack is unbeatable the original '73 and the movie. there are people out there pushing the goal post and trying to define ''what is a Mod'' and ''new'' Mod sounds ''RockerMod''  records getting played WTF is that??? Had the priviledge of seeing the ''Quadrophenia'' stage show along with tens of thousandsof Mods and ''theatre goers'' up and down the country lol!! I was blown away by it, one of the best nights of my life, when everyone stood up at the end and started shouting ''We are the mods, we are we are the mods!!!'' You know your part of something that refuses to leave you. Agree with Marty and the Pretty Green connection, thank god for Modclothing, run by genuine Mods, good luck to them. We all get pissed off  I do as well, but hey, gety the vinyl on the turntable, crank up the volume on your favourite tune and don't let the bastards get you down, cause we are the Mods!!!
