The Society of Cool!
I can't afford to wear a suit everyday, don't even own a suit actually. Does anyone know where you could purchase a suit or blazer jacket online, for a reasonable price(suit = £100, blazer = £50), something along those lines. Would love a navy or burgundy one. Feels wrong wearing my M51 over just a jumper or shirt, would much rather have a full suit or blazer at least.
Also, whilst I'm on the topic of clothes. I'm unsure whether to get Ikon Selecta oxblood tassel loafers or just a pair of brogues.
Sta prest trousers or jeans?

theres such a thing as casual mods
you dont need a suit to be identified to the cause
instead of compromising just wait till you can afford the suit you want with the details you would like it to have
its better than wasting money on something you dont really want or feel unhappy in wearing
Permalink Reply by Mark Chadwick on October 11, 2012 at 6:09 Additionally, I agree with Hubert. I dont wear suits myself but prefer a tweed blazer or harrington with nice vintage looking 3 button Polo by Farah or similar with chinos and loafers.I just picked up a lovely pair of vintage looking Baracuta deck shoes on evil bay as well.
I'm short and stocky and so I tend to look like a gangster or an enforcer in a suit.
Wear what you think looks good on you and you feel comfortable in. You'll feel better developing your own style. Fore example I dont like Parkas at all and dont own one. I think they sometimes look ok on others but they dont suit me. Theres nothing that you HAVE to wear.

Loafers every time......or Chelsea boots.

Three two roll, hooked centre vent, natural shouldered, would look great with jeans, sta prest, loafers or brogues; great for that Ivy-Mod look:

They're not bad quality for the price.
Permalink Reply by Nicky Bubbles on October 11, 2012 at 10:06 Gregor- there's nothing wrong with wanting to expand your wardrobe. Likewise, make sure it's going to suit your style so don't jump into anything just because you think it will make you 'fit in' with the others. (defeats the purpose?)
If you're after a blazer, you could do a lot worse than Gibson as they seem to have some nice stuff right now. Also, and hear me out on this, Ben Sherman are also tidying their act up with a few pieces as well. They may be on the top end of you current budget, but if you save some more it will be worth the wait. Alternatively, if you look hard, you can find loads of stuff on 60's original clobber online. Places like Etsy or Watch the Cloth Moth Facebook group always have things popping up and you can communicate with the shop owners easily about details and measurements.
As for your feet- 'Shoes maketh the Man'. Wear what you know you will look ace in and feel comfortable in too. Ikons are good, however it's worth checking the competition too. Bass Weejuns are a nice shape and around the same price for example.
Good luck and remember it's all about YOU!
Permalink Reply by maxr&b on October 11, 2012 at 17:54 i like ox blood shoes. I have a pair of those Ikon loafers which I've had for 4 or 5 years. They've still got plenty of life in them. getting rubber soles and heels on them is well worth the expense and prolongs the life of the shoe.
Permalink Reply by aldobhoy67 on October 11, 2012 at 19:37 Try TKmaxx Gregor, you can find a Ben Sherman suit in there for around a ton rarely a 3 button though, check ebay for Ben Sherman, Jump the gun, Adam of London suits these are really nice suits and might pick one up on the cheap if your lucky.
some second hand shops are really good for picking up mod gear on the cheap although i ve never found anything other than cds to be honest.
theres also a couple of suits advertised in the classified section on this site that might interest you.

Permalink Reply by Gregor on October 11, 2012 at 20:11 cheers for the help everyone, £150 for a Ben Sherman tonic suit seems top, I know what I'll be asking for Christmas haha! Also made me laugh, "I tend to look like a gangster or an enforcer in a suit."
Soon to buy a '67 Vespa Sprint, so should look cool on it!
I get what you mean when you say it's my choice and how I wear it.
Permalink Reply by Ally Milne on October 11, 2012 at 20:31 Go on ebay and hunt around .Ive picked up loads of good gear from ebay. Just bought a merc suit jacket for £28 .Bargains to be had.
Permalink Reply by Andrew Harris on October 12, 2012 at 7:04 I suppose one should dress to suit the events of the day or evening, It is very rare I wear a suit Gregor . When I attend a mod night I see a room full of suits and cant really see any difference with the people, the middle aged mods look like bouncers . This is why I prefer to dress different, always on the look out for stuff no one else will be wearing, keep my hair a little different. Similar but different . I'd go for the brogues rather than the Ikon Selectors, and the jeans . Personally I like cords and jeans , sometimes nice straight trousers with a subtle pattern, I wouldn't do Sta - Prest . break the rules and have fun it doesn't have to cost too much either , ebay, sales, tk max etc...
