Permalink Reply by boy_about_town on June 19, 2012 at 9:06 Did anyone go? Was a cracking night!
I was really keen to go but not to well after an Op last week. Saw them tons as a kid and then off and on over the last 10 years at reunion gigs and stuff. What can you tell us about it. Was it the original 4 or were the rumours that Kip may be there as lead singer true? Did Martin Mason show. A bit of a review or pics of the night would be appreciated. I am getting the DVD though as it is due to go up on Amazon soon

Was a cracking gig and had a DVD launch before it. Loads turned up, including someone from the Purple Hearts and Kip Herring.
Good atmosphere at the bar beforehand and loads of new people met. Drinks were flowing, then it was time for the gig.
All the classics were played, I am sure you know which ones. Loads of onstage banter. I had a chat with Kip before the start of the gig and he said he was, "doing a couple of numbers" and was looking forward to it. Also terry Rawlings was there and haven't met him before but had a good chat about upcoming gigs at the same venue.
Kip took to the stage late on into the set and all concerned loved the tunes that were being played and the band were well together.
The first time I had seen the band and in all honesty I cannot wait to see them again.
A cracking night of film, beer and music. I just about caught the last train home and was as pissed as a fart when I finally crashed out at 1am!
Thanks for the mini-review! Sounds like I missed a great night. The venue is decent and I saw The Chords there about 10 years back on one of their first get back together gigs. It took me back to being 15 again and seeing them in pubs around South London (No one seemed to mind my age as long as you played the game and didn't cause any bother) Good to know that even for a first time Chords live fan you made a few mates and enjoyed the atmosphere. Terry is a bloke I remember from back when I was a kid too and he really does have a name for himself having done so much in and around the scene. Glad you made it home OK. Thanks too I am doing alright now mate. Thanks for asking.
Permalink Reply by boy_about_town on June 21, 2012 at 9:09 No problem mate! I grew up near South London. Was gutted I wasn't old enough the first time around but as they say, never too late.
Yeah a cracking venue and there a loads of of mod related gigs coming up there!
Will have to have a beer if there's a chance of a meet at one!
Permalink Reply by Hemel Saint on June 20, 2012 at 20:40 I went. Didint think I would make it as working in East Mids. and a long treck back.
Pleased I made the effort, cracking night.
Kip made an entrance and did a couple of tracks, I think they also played a Pope single.
Bought a copy of the DVD have yet to watch it.
Really great to see the band again, and hope this is not the last time either.
So was Billy Hasset there too and how about Martin Mason the original bassist? The first time I saw them after they got back together Martin was in the audience for the whole gig and had to be sort of cajoled on to the stage for an encore of NOW IT'S GONE. Anything like that this time?
Permalink Reply by Bill The Pill on June 21, 2012 at 4:13 Martin didnt come out to Oz on the recent mini-tour,Mick Stoner played bass. Thought Billy was back in Japan after the tour?
Martin seems reticent to get back into it like the others I know. Mick played bass at the Islington gig in March but I wondered if as a 'one-off' Martin may have joined them. Like I said when the band were first doing irregular 'reunion' gigs I saw them at The Rythmn Factory for Terry Rawlings 40th Birthday about ten years back. The Chords had a young lad on bass who I think at the time was regular with Chris Pope and Buddy. Billy was with them and we just assumed Martin was not around or interested. All of a sudden for an encore of NOW IT'S GONE they shouted out from the stage "Is Martin Mason in the house" I knew exactly what Martin looked like, or so I thought, and guessed they would play on as they were as I had not seen Martin in the crowd or at the bar but a huge shout and cheer went up as a bald bloke with glasses got up on stage. It was Martin and as I had not seen him for 20 something years never even recognised him as he had changed so much. I know he did tour with them a while back in the UK but maybe has personal things on at the moment.
