The Society of Cool
i know this could be classed as blasphemous to some, however after listen to some classic soul/ska i popped some jam music on and it struck me that the jam sounded alot more like punk than what would be typically classed as original mod music
so the question possed
the jam - punk or mod????
ps first record i bought was town called malice - so i remain a big fan of all thing weller

Today I feel rather nostalgic about them, but I doubt that without the Jam I´d be into mod for 29 years now (is that true??... can´t believe it...)
Permalink Reply by gem on February 9, 2012 at 19:23 i woud say weller was influenced by mod and the jam were a mod style group but not mod music ,most mod music we d listen to where by groups who wernt mod ,,there where no mods in mowtown or stax ,maybe revival groups contained mods but were mostly 3 chord wonders but thats just opinion and i mostly talk a fair amount of sh1t :)

Permalink Reply by Chris Cameron on February 9, 2012 at 20:18 That was the wee place next to Detroit that was famous for its grass cutters ha ha.
Permalink Reply by Mod Goddess on February 9, 2012 at 22:40 Were they white grass cutters, and did they cut the grass for the Motown artists? I mean, most of the musicians at Motown were black after all...
Permalink Reply by Chris Cameron on February 10, 2012 at 8:32 What are you trying to say MG ? that all the white grass cutters in Detroit were racists. Maybe a bit too far north for the KKK grass cutting branch ha ha
Permalink Reply by Kai Ahland on February 10, 2012 at 8:37 Thought Obama would change all that white grass cutting going on in the USA!
Permalink Reply by Chris Cameron on February 10, 2012 at 8:44 He's maybe tried to do it, but the grass cutters are a particularly powerful lobby group in the US, slightly more powerful than the gun lobby, and slightly less than the tobacco lobby ha ha.
Permalink Reply by Kai Ahland on February 10, 2012 at 8:51 I remember when he started he promised NO SEGREGATION AMONG THE GRASSCUTTERS OF AMERICA!!!
Permalink Reply by Mod Goddess on February 11, 2012 at 5:31 No, I'm saying that at all CC. LOL!
I was merely pointing out that whilst the artists of Motown were predominently black and earning their money, it would've been nice for them to see white "field hands" doing the mowing and tending to the lawns instead of them (like their ancestors in South would have) for a change. Fiddle dee dee!
Permalink Reply by Chris Cameron on February 11, 2012 at 12:04 I was only having a wee laugh MG, I knew you were not being serious hence all my silly patter about the Grasscutters Lobby and stuff.
