The Society of Cool!
I was just editing the bit on my page with the five favourite tunes of the moment and thought to myself it's a really difficult question to answer honestly and completely. I know it's a kind of question to see if a person is actually serious about joining the mod generation site, after all we wouldn't want the site full of rockers would we?
Anyway I thought it would be easier to answer the initial question with what kind of sound do you like, what is the soundtrack sound that accompanies you personally on your journey through life, the theme for your universe/world. I shall share mine first to get it started with some pictures to add to the feeling of it :)
1)The instrumental sound of Link Wrays guitar.
2) The Famous Bo Diddley riff
3) The guitar riff in "You Really Got Me/All Day & All Of The Night" The Kinks
4)Surf Drums
5) A voice like Van Morrison in "Them" or Mick Jagger .
6) Vox , Farfisa or Hammond, the sound of ? & The Mysterians

Ok what's your soundtrack? :)

I guess its bipolar - Joy Division and the Smiths one week and Madness/90's blur the next!!
But always love jangly '66 guitar riffs, reversed solos, indian harmonies, distorted bass, maracas, public announcement samples etc etc in my music. Increasingly though I think more and more about the songs I've written and arranged myself.

It's a wild rock and roll / punk/ mod/ psych sounds I tend to listen too old and new. Certain song writers have opened gates for me also. I'm kind of forgetting lyrics that's have had an effect also but for the sake of the thread I'll stick to sounds influence. I forgot to mention Blues Harp that's another instrument I like to hear on a 45 or at a live gig .

Permalink Reply by Jordan Parker on October 30, 2012 at 14:44 I've been brought up listening to the 60's British versions of Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley songs , my folks tell me that it must be in the blood because I'm the third generation that gets it haha. A good punchy electric beat and some strong harmonica seems to get played all the time in our house and everything else sounds a bit empty. Not just Berry & Diddley, but the Chess based blues stuff that the original mods liked does it for me as well.

Permalink Reply by Andrew Harris on October 31, 2012 at 11:26 I think they are bands mods like, I have been to see the Cribs when they did the N.M.E show in Nottingham a few years back , they were excellent, I also have the Courteeners first album which has some great tunes on it.
