The Mod Generation

The Society of Cool!

Ladies & Gentlemen, I've been checking out the Vietnam sites to get myself a new set of wheels.

I've found one that's got exactly what I want. It’s called STAR VESPA based in Vietnam. I sorted out all the extra bells and whistles that i required and was ready to press the take my money button. Just then I discovered that it would not accept Pay Pal (the website says it does). I contacted them direct and they said it's a Pay Pal/Vietnam thing and Pay Pal will not send money to Vietnam. The only option available to me was a bank transfer. Mmmmm, don't know if I'm comfortable with that idea. It could be one of those send us all your money and we'll send you fvck all scams.

Since then I've checked with other Vietnam restorers and they accept credit cards, Pay Pal and the such like etc etc..... Unfortunately they don't have what i'm looking for. The Star Vespa story, perhaps perfectly innocent, does not ring true.

What I would like to know is: Has anyone used Star Vespa in the past and can recommend them or can anyone recommend an alternative option for importing a restored machine. Taking into account I am not in the UK these days and can't pop round to my local Mickey Oates. The only Vespas available here are 2009-2010 Models.

Do yourself a favour mate and stay clear, even if they do accept your money in good faith you may end up forking out for a scooter that is not roadworthy.
Some of the Vietnamese scooters look the biz Gloky. But they do come with a certain reputation of not being mechanically sound. Some of the guys I have spoke to talk of all sorts of mad things being in the engines in place of proper parts.
at last!!!!!!!! words of wisdom from the bold chris.......
how you doin gloky.....heard a lot about you from my good mate murdoch....and heard alot ..about these vietnamese scoots to.....actually me and andy have actually seen one at glasgow lambretta that was only a couple of years old........NOT A PRETTY SITE.....there was coke cans...inside the engine!!! the chrome..if you can call it that was...well.....So think twice mate...me and andy will ask at glasgow lammie if they can direct you to somewhere ...incidentally .....did you know iain donaldson fae H2O....he was my best mate for years...

Hey Colin, Thanks for the heads up. It seems to be the same advise from everyone. I think i'll give the Vietnam thing a miss. I've got a 70's Vespa 150 in a lock up in the south side. It's been seized for years but even if i replace the engine and ship it out, it still may be the cheapest option.

H2O tha was a long time ago. The name Iain Donaldson doesn't ring a bell, but i'm old and forgrtful now. The keyboard player was Chas Connelly (is that right?). If i'm right about Chas then I must have know Iain too. I used to drink with Chas and he used to fill in on keyboards for us from time to time.
gloky...you are spot on....iain was the lead singer..."i dream to sleep" was their most well known..record.... he came from...across sunny govan way...after their demise,,he went solo for a while...didnt really work out though...( made a few records mind you) latest project..four good men...check them out on the web...i think you'll recall him....think you got the rigt idea about the scoot....keep us posted....well seen you didnt give the "exact" location of it ...it may just have "disapeared"...ha ha given that there are many "auld mods" looking for scoots now......better get somebody tae go and have a wee check on it...ha ha

stay well clear of these vet kong f****** get this month scootering tells you what to look for,no a bad li150 on gumtree glasgow just now for £1200 and with 175 tap end and sports pipe good base for a nice lambretta.
Nothing wrong with the Vietcong Andy. Beat the crap out of those yanks despite the napalm and thousand of bombs dropped from B52s. I did not realise they had branched into scooters ha ha.
maybe not a good idea to touch this! you can get restored italian lambrettas etc through scootering magazine, lookit up on line, these british companies are, as far as i know very trustworthy.and they send abroad.J
i wouldnt buy from vietnam, cos you cant see the bike, i would never spend that amount fo money without being able to see it. i have heard that they can snap im half(not good), someone bought a vetnamese lammy, and had to push to a show on the same road as his even with a new engine!
