The Society of Cool!
I've just scanned the topics to see if there was a discussion involving waistcoats. I know a few who sport a waistcoat on it's own or a three piece suit and would enjoy hearing what the mod generation have to say on the subject. I myself haven't worn one for a very long time and reminded myself that I have worn one before when I spotted this old pic from 1989 lol. Lets share your thoughts and perhaps some pictures and links of nice designs etc..... If you don't like them then that's cool too. Let us know why ? :)
P:S don't laugh at the Skoda it wasn't mine I had a Lambretta ! lol

Anyway, I wouldn´t wear one as I don´t like anything without sleeves. But it suits the Rolling Stones/ Pretty Things 63/64 image, which is ok if you´re slim and got the hair.

Permalink Reply by Kai Ahland on October 2, 2012 at 18:19 Might have been within another topic, "Things I´d never wear" or something, don´t know... :-)

Yes.
, I quite liked waistcoats at one time. Had a 3 piece suit once when I was 16/17 (charity shop). Also a black leather waistcoat which I remember wearing with a blue striped tab collar shirt, black knitted tie, black trousers and beat boots. Copied that look off a photo of some band - could have been Keith Richards or the Yardbirds or someone.
Not too sure about them with jeans and t shirts though - bit Wishbone Ash/folkie/hippy type thing. My mate's an old hippy/biker. Wears a flowery w'coat with a tie-dyed Gong t shirt and occasionally sandals or effing great army boots. nice bloke though.
Permalink Reply by Andrew Harris on October 2, 2012 at 10:04 white sock, I should have coloured them in on the pic but then you would ask me why I wasn't wearing them in the 80's haha. yeah I have two ex biker friends and both could easily wear waist coats and jeans lol , and one of em only ever wears sandals lol
Permalink Reply by John Armstrong on October 2, 2012 at 10:38 My current waistcoat count is seven. L-R = black leather (I have beat-tendencies) / silk / cotton (part of a 3piece) / black scalloped lapels / tweed / black brushed cotton with square-cut-bottom with pointed lapels (pt of a 3piece) / and silvered herringbone.
I like them to have lapels but not many do. With or without a jacket.
Go on - get back into waistcoats.

Permalink Reply by paul david johnson on October 2, 2012 at 12:06 i had a thing about wearing a silver paisley waist coat with a white roll neck and black strides and pointed Chelsea boots back in 82ish for about a week, till i saw some new romantics wearing practically the same get up and dropped it...was smart tho...
Permalink Reply by maxr&b on October 2, 2012 at 13:45 Don't see them much now though I see Next is selling them - crap quality I bet. I suppose houses are warmer - double glazing, central heating etc. People don't really wear vests either nowadays.
My old man had a couple of nice ones that I took over. One was dove grey with a sort of tonic lilac lining and back, and mother of pearl buttons. Looked nice with a blue suit but it was too effing hot in clubs, discos , at the pub.
