The Society of Cool!
My pet hate has always been custom scooters, especially from the 80's. Back then on the rallies it seemed that mural paint jobs and cut down scooters was the way to go?. For me personally I prefer the original out of the factory look, especially for older scooters like your GS and your Li's and your SX. Don't mind people moding up their ride a bit as long as they don't hack away at the bodywork. I can appreciate that some scooter lovers like and spend a lot of cash doing such projects, but for me it's something I have never really had the taste for. I have added a link which show's you the kind of things I dislike. P.S The Jackie Wilson Vespa was my mates (never told him I hated it LOL!)

In the 80s the Vespa PK was an absolute no-no among german mods; looking back at what followed it doesn´t look that bad today. As far as fashion is concerned it remains a mystery to me how we all tried to be the Small Faces, the Action or the Creation and did so while mindlessly sporting white socks! Bomber jackets, as worn by by 80s skins and scooter boys, with their orange lining, were far too common amongst mods in the 80s, too. I confess I too briefly had a black one in the late 80s, though I almost exclusively wore it while skiing on winter holidays.

Permalink Reply by Kai Ahland on September 10, 2012 at 16:00 That´s what I mean, Clem. We used to call them bomber jackets, but I think that was specifically german.
Permalink Reply by Gordon on September 10, 2012 at 16:18 Your not the only one Kai. My Dad call's them Bomber Jackets. The proper name is an Ma1 Fling Jacket. Loads of people where wearing them at the time in green, black or navy blue. Me as well. Spotted more them a few Mods wearing them with CCI rally patch's on them. There's a well known photo' of a Chester 60's Mod wearing one. I've never wore one since the early 90's.
And everyone wore white socks, even the Mods. With suits...go and look at any 80's photo's. God knows why.
Despite what people think lots of Mods in the 60's also wore white socks and other colour's.

Ach... The famous PK problem... You are right, it may had a bad looking some years a ago, but when you see how the Vespa designs changed, these PK scooters were maybe the very last of the Vespa original lines (not the automatic ones with the "Goldorak" headset!), with brake pedal and manual gearbox (after PX which is always producted as you know). The frame is not so round than the beautiful ones, but still kept the line.
And i don't say that because i ride a PK (well, i really wish i will soon afford an older scooter!)
P.S. my last crush was for a Zündapp RS 50 ;D
