Permalink Reply by Ruadhán J McElroy 2 hours ago My mother raised me on Zappa; he claimed to have never did drugs or drank. A lot of his music is a clever satire of the genre he's playing in (which changes at least from album to album) --and not always just in lyrics. He does to Jazz and rock what PDQ Bach does for Classical music. The rest of his music is just him showing off as a musician.
Permalink Reply by PETER HEED 2 hours ago Been into ZAPPA since '65 got tons of his albums, nothing to do with MOD but a nice bit of relief away from our music
Permalink Reply by Pocahontas McGlinchey 1 hour ago Marv Johnson - Don't leave me. Cheapie but brilliant tune.
Permalink Reply by Ruadhán J McElroy 7 hours ago I found a box set, Before They Were Hits Or We Did It First.
I'm now listening to Tony Romeo's "I'm Gonna Make You Mine" --I don't have the Lou Christie version.
Permalink Reply by PETER HEED 3 hours ago Lou's version is great 60's pop
Permalink Reply by Ruadhán J McElroy 2 hours ago It is. The original isn't bad, either, but Lou Christie's got an impressive voice.

Today it's been Augustus Pablo - King Tubby Meets Rockers Uptown.
A belter of a dub record.
