MIDLANDS MOD WEEKENDER (JUBILEE BANK HOLIDAY) Event Type: SORROWS/MOD/60S/R&S/NORTHERN SOUL/SKA/FREAKBEAT

June 2, 2012 at 1pm to June 4, 2012 at 4am
MIDLANDS MOD WEEKENDER- BIRMINGAM-JUBILEE WEEKEND 2/3 JUNEBirmingham is synonymous with the Mod Scene, with both the Spencer Davis Group and the Move just two of the excellent bands to hail from the second city in the sixties. Throughout the eighties and early nineties it was a hotbed for the new Mod movement with clubs like the Outrigger and we made regular visits up from the capital to enjoy the scene. After a three year break the New Untouchables return with a brand new event at a fantastic…See More

Chris Queen replied to Max R&B's discussion 'mod style on a budget'
"The thing you have to define is "What is a Mod and Mod clothes, we all subscribe to a style, but that stlye never died out, it is still available in many modern stores like John Lewis, River Island, the whole point of the 60's Mods they…"

Baby Love

This weekend found me at The Knights Quest pub in Blackheath on the outskirts of Birmingham. It is a regular venue for bands and has something on every week. As there was nothing going on in the city centre (well not that I could find) I took myself there to see see a girl group called "Baby Love", you have probably guessed from the name they were a tribute band to the sixties girl groups. Well, first off, I was the only one in…See More

Club A-Go Go, Birmingham

Last Saturday I took myself off to Club A-Go Go held in Birmingham city centre at the Victoria pub.  Now the flyer on here said get there early as it is popular and gets full, so I did.  The club is held upstairs and wasn't open just yet, but in the pub was a mixture of Mods and locals, so I sat and surveyed the scene for a while, having grabbed the only seat I could see. As the place filled I…See More

Profile Information

About Me:
I was very into the Mod scene in Birmingham in the 80,s, Top Rank, Barrel Organ , the Outrigger, and the love of my life Lambretta SX 200.
For those that remember the Sunday runs at that time, here is a bit of History, as the Mod scene was waining and the Sunday runs had fewer and fewer people after a good few yrs I knew it was the end when myself and good mate, Ayf, were the only two to turn up one sunday and we knew the scene had died, a very sad day, we just looked at each other knowing the life we had was over, it was the end of a huge scene, thankfully there are enough of us to not let it die altogether.
Top 5 tunes at the moment:
The night
Out on the floor
The Letter
The in crowd
Hang on Sloopy
Vespa, Lambretta or other?
Lambretta ( once upon a time)

Brum Beat Mod Night

So Saturday night I took myself off into Digbeth in Birmingham for the Brum Beat Special, having just only got back into the scene, or should I say trying to, more about that later !!. I wasn't sure what to expect, so dressed accordingly, Mod enough for those who know, but understated enough to go somewhere else and blend in should the night turn out…
