Introduction to Members Articles

Members articles are a great way to share stories and express yourself. While discussion threads are about community discussions, an article is all about you. Any article you add to the site will be compiled on your profile page.

To get started, go to 'Add An Article' on the right hand column of the Main Page. You can also click on the "Add" link from the All Articles page itself. A link to All 'Members Articles' is also shown in the top navigation tabs, under Articles.

You can add text, links, images and even video embeds to your article using the text editor. You can also select the privacy of your article to allow anyone on The Mod Generation to view it, just your friends on The Mod Generation, or just you. Click "Save as Draft" if you need to pick up the post later and want to save it. "Preview" will let you see what it looks like when posted, while "Publish" will submit the articel for publishing. If you want to publish it on a specific day in the future, select the radio button next to "Choose a date and time" and enter your desired date below. To notify people on Twitter or Facebook about the article, check the box next to the relevant icon, and add a message.

NB while editing, you will also find an AutoRecover link at the bottom of the page where you can recover your work, should you accidently loose it.

The Text Editor will appear by default in Visual Mode, which is also known as WYSIWYG view (this stands for “what you see is what you get”). When you’re doing something like making text bold, you’ll actually see bold text, if you switch to the HTML editor you will see the actual code, such as the following for <b>bolded text</b>.

To insert a link, click on the link icon in the toolbar. In the box that pops up, type or paste the URL you want the text to link to. In the Link Text section, enter the text to display on your network. To add a link to existing text, highlight the text, click on the link icon. The Link Text field will already include that text.

To insert an image to your post, click on the image icon, which looks like a framed picture, in the toolbar. A window will appear prompting you to select a photo from your computer to upload. You also have the option of clicking on the "From a URL" tab to add an online image to your post. Determine from the Layout section how you want your image to be aligned. You can specify a number of pixels to add space around your image. The Link field will by default be your image's URL, but edit it to take members to a specific page or website of your choosing. If the image is too wide or narrow change its width here as well. When you're done, click "OK" to apply these changes to your post.

To embed a video, click on the media icon, which looks like a film strip. A window will pop up with a space for you to paste in your HTML embed code. This can be a video or a widget. When you publish your post, anyone will be able to see the video.

To paste text as plain text, click on the "T" paper icon. If you are pasting text from a Word document or other source, you may encounter some issues with character limits, as formatting and hidden HTML elements will likely be carried over. Pasting text as plain text will help avoid this issue.

To Upload a file of any type click on the paperclip icon. The file will appear as a link.

When you have finished, please add tags in order that your article will show up in search results, and make sure you use quotations marks if the tag is two or more words eg: "Garage Punk"
